The Margaret River region to the south of Perth is well visited because of its vineyards and, in this video, Wine Week hosts Danny and Brad rave over a bottle of chardonnay from the area, going as far to call it the best chardonnay region in Australia.
Leeuwin Estate chardonnay
Leeuwin Estate is well-known for its wine as well as the music festival it holds every year. The bottle sampled in this video is from its second string label Prelude and costs around $30 a bottle. It comes from the 2008 season which, along with 2007, was a very good vintage for the area.
Bottles from the top range of the estate sell for about $100 and they usually get the royal treatment with exceptional oak barrels used for the ageing process.
History of Leeuwin Estate
Leeuwin Estate is an institution of winemaking and was one of the first wineries in the Margaret River area. Established in 1972, Leeuwin Estate's wines win copious awards and are often ranked alongside the best in the world. In 1980, Decanter Magazine awarded Leeuwin Estate's chardonnay its highest recommendation possible.

Behind Meteor Crater in Arizona, Wolfe Creek Crater is the world's second largest meteorite crater in the world, measuring 880 metres across and 50m deep. The meteorite is thought to have struck down in Western Australia about 300,000 years ago and was made famous by the 2005 horror film Wolf Creek.
Location of the crater
Wolfe Creek, or Gandimalal as it's known to the Jaru and Walmajarri people, is located on the edges of the Great Sandy Desert and Tanami Desert, around 1850 kilometres northeast of Perth. The nearest town, Halls Creek, is located around 100km, a two and a half hour drive, to the north. If you decide to drive there, the Tanami Road is made of gravel and is only accessible to non-4WD vehicles between May and November.
Location of the meteorite
Scientists estimate that the meteorite that struck the ground weighed around 50,000 tonnes and smashed on impact. Very few fragments of the rock have been found, however, although parts of it, weighing up to 250kg, have been found up to four kilometres from the crater. Much of the rest of the meteorite was probably turned into liquid due to the heat, although people are still finding pieces.

Swimming with dolphins appears on a high number of people's bucket lists and where better to do it than off the west coast of Australia? Not only is Western Australia's coastline teeming with dolphins, it's also a great place to see sea lions, little penguins, humpback whales and tropical fish.
Shoalwater Islands Marine Park
Forty minutes south of Perth is a protected area offering visitors the chance to watch a colony of little penguins in their natural habitat. The bigger draw is the huge pod of dolphins that call this area home and freely frolic in the waves, happily allowing humans to join in.
Rockingham
Rockingham is perhaps the best spot for swimming with dolphins. Rockingham Wild Encounters was started by Terry Howson who took a keen interest in dolphins from a young age. He'd often take his father's boat out into the water to study the animals and one day an inquisitive female let him swim with her. He was slowly introduced to the rest of the pod and now has contact with around 200 dolphins.
Terry runs tours that let even less confident swimmers who haven't snorkelled before swim freely with dolphins in as natural an environment as possible. No food is used to tempt the dolphins and they're allowed to swim freely wherever they want.
Swimming with dolphins in WA
As well as Shoalwater and Rockingham, Monkey Mia, Mandurah and several other places offer great opportunities to tick this goal off your list. It's best enjoyed with a group of friends, so why not call round and organise a bus to take you to the coast. Call Fleetspec Hire on (08) 6555 3446 to organise your transportation.
